ArcGIS
ArcGIS student licences can be obtained in-person from the ERC or Architecture library service desks after showing your student card.
Each licence pack contains a physical disc copy of ArcGIS, as well as a licence code with instructions on downloading a soft copy.
These licences can be in high demand at the start of each semester and sometimes run out. Students are recommended to visit early to avoid disappointment.

Mathematica and Wolfram|Alpha Pro
Students can access Mathematica and Wolfram|Alpha Pro through a university-provided licence.
Create a Wolfram ID
This step must be completed before Mathematica or Wolfram|Alpha Pro can be used.
- Visit the Create a Wolfram ID form on the Wolfram website
- Enter your student email address in the 'Email' form and complete your registration
- Wait for a verification email to arrive, and click the link in that email to verify your account
Access Mathematica
- Click the button below and fill out the form to request a Mathematica activation key
- Wait for a confirmation email to arrive
- Follow the instructions in the email to access Mathematica online
Access Wolfram|Alpha Pro
- Click the button below and fill out the form to request Wolfram|Alpha Pro access
- Wait for a confirmation email to arrive
- Follow the instructions in the email to obtain Wolfram|Alpha Pro

MATLAB
Staff and students can install MATLAB on their personal computer by following these steps.
1. Create a MathWorks account
- At the MathWorks website, select the "Log In" link in the top right hand corner
- Select "Create Account"
- Enter your personal details, noting that you'll need to use your university email address in order to obtain Matlab for free
- When asked how you will use MathWorks software, select "Academic use"
2. Create a license
- While logged into your account, go to the License Centre
- Select the "Associate to License" link in the top right hand corner
- When prompted, enter one of the following activation keys and click "Associate License"
- 24759-36418-71647-13382-89362 (for university staff)
- 18098-22076-81253-90866-03229 (for university students)
3. Download Matlab
- While still in the License Centre, select the "Download Products" link and follow the instructions on each dialog box in the download procedure
- Start the MathWorks installer
- Windows: Double-click the setup.exe file
- Macintosh: Double-click the InstallForMacOSX file
- Linux/Unix: Run the install script
- Choose "Log in with a MathWorks Account" and follow the prompts

Microsoft Azure
Microsoft Azure is a service used by the University of Melbourne to distribute software to students. Students will need to sign in with their University email and agree to the subscription terms to access a range of software including:
Azure for Education
- Windows 10
- Windows 8.1
- Windows Server 2016
- Project 2019
- Visio 2019
- Access 2019
- and more

Microsoft Office 365
All students have access to Microsoft Office 365, which includes both online and downloadable versions of:
- Microsoft Word
- Microsoft Excel
- Microsoft PowerPoint
- Microsoft Outlook
- and more
Sign in to the Office 365 Portal with your student email address and password, and click 'Install Office'. For further assistance, you can follow our instructions.

NVivo
Students can install NVivo 11, NVivo 12, NVivo Plus 11 or NVivo Plus 12 on personal Windows or Mac devices.
- Download and install the NVivo trial version from the QSR website
- Contact Student IT via online chat or the Student Services Portal to request a licence code
- Student IT will send the licence code to your student email address
- Open the NVivo software and follow the prompts to activate your licence
NVivo licences are for university students and staff only, and must be renewed in January each year,

OnTheHub
OnTheHub is a service that provides free and discounted software to University of Melbourne students, partnering with publishers such as Adobe, IBM, and Symantec. University students have access to four OnTheHub webstores, which provide a large collection of software:
MSE OnTheHub (Melbourne School of Engineering) and e5 OnTheHub (General Students)
Users must request an account under 'register'.
- IBM SPSS & CPLEX
- Discounted software such as Adobe Creative Cloud
UniMelb OnTheHub
Users must register for an account using a university email address.
- Microsoft Windows 10 Education
- Few free titles, but a wide range of discounted software

SAS
A fully licensed installation of SAS can be completed at the ERC Library help desk with the assistance of Student IT. A license agreement must be submitted to IT Infrastructure Services in order to use the university's site license, which is completed on the desk.
Please note that SAS is a very large program and may take several hours for installation.
