Installing ArcGIS
ArcGIS is downloaded online from My Esri. Please contact us over Live Chat or support ticket for licensing.
Accessing LTSpice
LTSpice is available for free at the Analog Devices Website for Windows (XP,7,8 and 10) and MacOS (10.7 and Above).
Installing Mathematica & Wolfram Alpha Pro
Students can access Mathematica and Wolfram|Alpha Pro through a university-provided licence.
Create a Wolfram ID
This step must be completed before Mathematica or Wolfram|Alpha Pro can be used.
- Visit the Create a Wolfram ID form on the Wolfram website
- Enter your student email address in the 'Email' form and complete your registration
- Wait for a verification email to arrive, and click the link in that email to verify your account
Access Mathematica
- Click the button below and fill out the form to request a Mathematica activation key
- Wait for a confirmation email to arrive
- Follow the instructions in the email to access Mathematica online
Access Wolfram|Alpha Pro
- Click the button below and fill out the form to request Wolfram|Alpha Pro access
- Wait for a confirmation email to arrive
- Follow the instructions in the email to obtain Wolfram|Alpha Pro
Installing MATLAB
University of Melbourne offers a campus-wide MATLAB license. Staff and students are eligible to install the program on personal devices using these instructions.
MATLAB is also installed on all Library computers on campus. It may also be available in some Faculty and Graduate School labs. Go back to the Software For Students page to see specific locations.

1. Create a MathWorks account
- At the MathWorks website, select the "Log In" link in the top right hand corner
- Select "Create Account"
- Enter your personal details, noting that you'll need to use your university email address (USERNAME@student.unimelb.edu.au or USERNAME@unimelb.edu.au) in order to obtain Matlab for free. A license will automatically be associated with your Unimelb mathworks account.
- When asked how you will use MathWorks software, select "Academic use"
2. Download Matlab

- Note: If you run into any issues with the download try downloading on UniWireless or using the University VPN

Start the MathWorks installer
- Windows: Double-click the setup.exe file
- Macintosh: Double-click the InstallForMacOSX file
- Linux/Unix: Run the install script
- Choose "Log in with a MathWorks Account" and follow the prompts

MATLAB is also available to all staff and students via myUniApps
University Devices
MATLAB is available on all university managed devices. Please download MATLAB via Software Centre on Windows computers or the Self Service on Mac computers.

Accessing Microsoft Azure
Microsoft Azure Dev Tools for Teaching allows students' access to developer tools -- including Project, Visio, and Visual Studio Enterprise. These titles allow users to create cross-platform apps, manage application lifecycles, create modern reports with actionable insights, and more. This service is replacing Microsoft Imagine.
Students and Academic staff can install the software on personal devices (only for Learning / Teaching purposes).
Visit Azure Dev Tools for Teaching below and sign-in using your Unimelb username and password.

Available at OntheHub
Students can obtain Windows 10 Education from OnTheHub for free. Sign-in to the service using your Unimelb username and password below.
When installing Windows 10 Education, you will be prompted to sign in using your "work or school address". Please note, you should not use your student email address during the installation and instead:
- Set up a personal account by signing in with your personal email address
- Set up a local account by selecting "Offline Account" option
OntheHub also contains discounted software from Microsoft, Adobe and IBM for staff and students to purchase and use on thier personal devices
Using Microsoft 365
All students have access to Microsoft Office 365, which includes both online and downloadable versions of:
- Microsoft Word
- Microsoft Excel
- Microsoft PowerPoint
- Microsoft Outlook
- and more
Sign in to the Office 365 Portal below with your student email address and password, and click 'Install Office'. For further assistance, you can follow our instructions.

Installing NVivo
Students can install NVivo 12, or NVivo Plus 12 on personal Windows or Mac devices.

- Download and run the NVivo installer from the QSR Portal
- Login at the Software with License Keys page using your university credentials. The license key will be under the Nvivo tab
- Open the NVivo software and follow the prompts to activate your licence
NVivo licences are for university students and staff only, and must be renewed in January each year.
Accessing SketchUp Pro
This software has been made available for use to Architecture, Building and Planning (ABP) faculty students during the COVID-19 period and is currently end-dated for 1 September 2020. This date is subject to change and this page will be updated if any changes occur.

Installing SAS
The SAS University Edition is free to download and use.
If you require access to our site license for the full version, please contact us with a completed copy of the Master License Agreement form.
Accessing LabVIEW
UniMelb students can get free access to all the NI software you need through our NI Academic Site License.
To access LabVIEW:
- The University of Melbourne has access to the LabVIEW Academic Site License option.
- Get the installation serial number at the Software With License Keys Page .
- Connect to the internet to download the LabVIEW software from here.
- Install & activate the software using your Student Install serial number.
Important: Your software will stay active for current academic year. After that time, check this webpage to obtain a new serial number.
Obtaining R Software
R can be downloaded from the publisher's website.
Additional enhancements of R have been created by RStudio. A range of products are listed on their website including related support services specific to the products.

Installing Stata
This software has been made available for use for staff and students during the COVID-19 period and is currently end-dated for 31 August 2020. This date is subject to change and this page will be updated if any changes occur.

Students and staff can install Stata on their personal Windows, Mac or Unix/Linux devices:
- Download Stata here. You can find the Username, Password and Stata Serial Number at the Software with License Keys page under 'Information for Stata Download'.
- Run the program and Accept the terms of the license agreement.

Click Next with the default Customer Information:
- Username: The University of Melbourne
- Organisation: Infrastructure Services

Select StataSE when prompted.
- Note: If you currently have a license for MP and wish to use MP on your personal device please lodge a Software Installation form. Please select Stata MP and advise "Home Use" in the additional information.
- Click Next until the setup begins and then click Finish once it has completed
- Upon opening Stata for the first time you will be prompted for license details. Enter the Name, Organisation, Serial Number, Code and Authorization found at the Software with License Keys page under 'License Details for Stata'.

Obtaining Zoom
Zoom is a video conferencing/ webinar software that supports up to 300 participants in standard meetings.
All students and staff have access to an ‘On-Prem’ license in Zoom.
Zoom can be used as a program on your computer or in a web browser. Please note the web browser users will not be able to join breakout rooms.
Installing Zoom on your computer
- Download and install the ‘Zoom Client for Meetings’ program here.
- Once downloaded, open zoom and click ‘Sign in With SSO’ and put in ‘unimelb.zoom.us’ as the company domain.
- Sign in with your university credentials in the browser window that pops up.

Accessing MyUniApps
myUniApps provides you with free access to applications that are hosted online by the University. These include general productivity applications and applications that may be relevant to your courses.
myUniApps also offers you a University-supported virtual Windows desktop on your device (even if you are using an Apple or Linux operating system).

The university offers 2 VPN services. Cisco AnyConnect for general VPN access and FortiClient for students in Mainland China. See the VPN page below for instructions on how to connect.

Installing Adobe Creative Cloud

Students and staff can install Adobe CC on their personal Windows and Mac devices:
- Navigate to the Adobe CC website here.

Click "Sign In" on the top right.
- If prompted, please select School or Company Account .
- Sign in using your University email address and password.
- Click download, and install the Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop Manager
- Open the Adobe CC Desktop manager, and sign in with your University email address and password.
- Select the Adobe Creative Cloud applications you wish to install.

Installing SPSS
IBM is providing extended trial versions of SPSS Statistics to all users to assist them through the COVID-19 period. At the moment, these are end-dated 1st of June 2020. This date is subject to change and this page will be updated if any changes occur.

- Verify your email by entering the code you receive in your email.

Blackboard App
The Blackboard App allows fast, convenient access to the LMS from your smartphone or tablet. The app is free to download and use for all University staff and students. You will be able to access most of your subject materials with the Blackboard App, and some features are available using a web browser.

My.Unimelb Mobile App
The my.unimelb mobile app allows you to view your class and exam timetables, notices, library borrowing, fines, results, system announcements and events. You can also use the app to interact with University campus maps, to search for key locations on campus and get directions.

The University's Safer Community Program launched its Unisafe app in an effort to educate staff, students and visitors to the University on ways they can enhance their personal safety and contribute to building a safe and secure environment. The app also includes tips on enhancing personal safety on campus, public transport, in cars, at home and 'out and about'.
