Microsoft's Office suite is available to all UniMelb students. Including trusted apps Word, Excel and Powerpoint, lecture note-taking favourite OneNote and 5TB of cloud storage on OneDrive.

How can I download Office on my computer/device?
Windows & Mac
- Navigate to the Office Portal
- Login with your student email and password
- Click the 'Install Office' button (top right) of the page, and select 'Office 365 Apps' from the drop down
- Await download and follow the installation prompts

Is EndNote for Word available for students?
Yes, EndNote is offered to all UniMelb students and staff. More information and installation links are available on the LibGuide page for EndNote.

How long does my access to Office last?
Students have access to Microsoft Office 365 for the entire duration of their studies at the University, with this access ending between 3-6 months after completion of studies. Ensure any important documents or files are moved from OneDrive onto permanent storage before then.

How do I activate Office on my Windows/Mac computer?
Windows/Mac
Upon first launching an Office application (e.g. Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc), Office will prompt you to log in to activate. Use your UniMelb student email address and password.

I'm having technical problems
If you are seeing a redirect loop while accessing https://portal.office.com on Safari, try using another browser, such as Firefox or Google Chrome.
If you are using a Mac and you are not able to activate Microsoft Office 365, try again using the University network. You can do this by accessing UniWireless on campus, or using the University VPN. Also ensure that your system date, time and timezone are set correctly for your current location.

Do I have an Outlook email account?
No, UniMelb student email accounts are hosted on Google's secure cloud-based Gmail platform. More information is available on our Google Workspace page.
Exchange/Outlook is, however, used for UniMelb staff email accounts.

The software I'm looking for is not listed here
Not all Microsoft software is available through Office 365. However, some software is available to download through another subscription service called Microsoft Imagine Premium. This includes, but is not limited to the following:
- Project
- Visio
- Visual Studio
- Azure
- Skype for Business
- Windows (8.1, 10 and Server editions)
